Big Thunder Mountain Renovation from January through early summer 2025

Starting January 6, 2025, the iconic Big Thunder Mountain attraction will be temporarily closed to the public for renovations until early summer 2025. While many Disneyland® Paris teams are already hard at work on this project, get a sneak peek at what's in store!

For over a year, the Walt Disney Imagineering Paris and Design & Delivery teams have been preparing the next renovation of this iconic attraction, which will be carried out in collaboration with the Maintenance and Central Workshops teams: this type of rehabilitation is necessary both for the regular maintenance of an attraction open every day of the year, but also to ensure the quality of the experience by respecting the original creative vision, and to preserve its history, which is closely linked to that of Frontierland®.

The challenge is first of all to maintain a strong immersion in the Wild West atmosphere specific to Frontierland®: to do this, the Imagineers provided an in-depth study on wood, very present in the decor of the attraction and its station, with a view to replacing certain structures with new elements custom-made by Design & Delivery and the Central Workshops, more durable and carefully painted to keep the aged appearance of this mine dating from the gold rush; certain emblematic elements of decor on the mountain, such as the famous Mill Camp tower, and at the queue level will be refurbished.

All the animal figures of the attraction, such as the goat and the mules, will be fully restored in the Central Workshops to regain their original splendor; the plants will not be left out with the replanting of cacti, to complete the authenticity of the landscape evoking the deserts of North America. To take the greatest care of these elements essential to the history of the attraction, the Walt Disney Imagineering Paris teams were able to refer to the archives of Big Thunder Mountain dating back to its opening in 1992.

During the closure, all teams involved in the attraction's construction site will do everything possible to ensure that Big Thunder Mountain becomes accessible again at the start of the summer season, in optimal conditions of comfort for visitors and Cast Members alike. A well-deserved and necessary break for the “craziest ride in the West!”
